Weekly export of agricultural produce - October 4 - 10, 2020

Introduction

Towards the end of September, the Department of Agricultural Marketing & Co-operatives (DAMC) has placed several staffs in Phuentsholing to help the growers and exporters  export their produce unhindered. While the Regional Agricultural Marketing & Co-operative office (RAMCO) - Gelephu is facilitating export via Gelephu; staffs of RAMCO– Monggar are working with the COVID Task Force based at Samdrup Jongkhar to facilitate export from the eatern gateway.

Such a move was seen necessary because of the disruptions of exports due to increasing COVID-19 pandemic situation in India and the restricted movement of people and vehicles even within Bhutan for similar reason.

Export

2,039.85MT of agricultural produce worth of Nu. 72.28 million was exported during the first week of October, 2020.

The major export were cardamom, ginger, apple, potato, and cabbage. 99 per cent of the export was India bound with the just one per cent to Bangladesh. With the onset of cardamom and mandarin marketing over the next few months, export to Bangladesh will see huge rises.
